Easter Egg
A hidden feature or novelty in a video game that players can discover.

XP
Experience Points, units of measurement used to quantify a player character's progression through the game.
AAA
A classification term used for games with the highest development budgets and levels of promotion.
LAN
Local Area Network, a network of computers in close proximity that enables local multiplayer gaming without the use of the internet.
RNG
Random Number Generator, a computational or physical device designed to generate a sequence of numbers or symbols that lacks any pattern, i.e., is random.
Mod
A modification to a video game that changes some aspects of the game, such as how it looks or behaves.
NPC
Non-Player Character, an entity in a video game not controlled by a player.
Health
A player character's life count, often represented by a bar or numeric value, which decreases when the character takes damage.
Guild
An organized group of players that regularly play together in multiplayer games.
DLC
Downloadable Content, additional content created for an already released video game, distributed through the internet.
Esports
A form of competition using video games, which can be amateur or professional.
Cheats
Codes or methods used to gain an advantage in a game, typically not intended by the game's designers.
Grinding
Repeatedly performing the same action or set of actions to accumulate a desirable object or to advance in level.
Indie Game
A video game created by independent developers without the financial support of a large video game publisher.
Hitbox
The area of a character or object within a video game which can be hit or interacted with.
Speedrun
The act of completing a video game as quickly as possible, often involving unique strategies and glitches.
Co-op
Cooperative gameplay where players work together towards a common goal, rather than competing against one another.
Platformer
A genre of video game which involves guiding an avatar to jump between suspended platforms, avoid obstacles, or both.
AI
Artificial Intelligence, the simulation of human intelligence processes by machines, especially computer systems. In gaming, it often refers to non-player character behavior.
FPS
Frames Per Second, a measure of how many unique consecutive images a computer graphics system can produce in one second.
PvP
Player versus Player, a type of multiplayer video game combat between two or more live players.
Sandbox
A style of game in which minimal character limitations are placed on the player, allowing the player to roam and change a virtual world at will.
RPG
Role-Playing Game, a genre where players control a character or party and undertake quests in a story-driven world.
MMO
Massively Multiplayer Online, a video game genre that is capable of supporting large numbers of players, typically from hundreds to thousands, on the same server.
VR
Virtual Reality, a simulated experience that can be similar to or completely different from the real world, used in games for immersive experiences.
