A massive and complex structure that surrounds the Glade.
The Creators
The group responsible for constructing the Maze and putting the Gladers in it.
The Changing
A painful transformation Gladers go through after being stung by a Griever, often restoring memories.
The Box
The metal lift that delivers new supplies and new Gladers to the Glade.
Thomas
The protagonist who arrives in the Glade with no prior memories.
Teresa
The first and only female Glader who has a telepathic connection with Thomas.
Runner
A Glader who explores the Maze in an attempt to find a way out.
The Flare
A viral disease that slowly eats away the brain, causing extreme aggression and madness.
WICKED
Short for 'World In Catastrophe: Killzone Experiment Department', they are the organization behind the Maze.
Newt
One of the Gladers who becomes a leader and Thomas's close friend.
Minho
The Keeper of the Runners who helps Thomas survive the Maze.
Alby
The leader of the Gladers when Thomas first arrives.
Gally
A Glader who distrusts Thomas and believes in maintaining the status quo within the Maze.
Gathering
A meeting of the Keepers to discuss important matters concerning the Glade.
Beetle Blades
Mechanical creatures used by the Creators to observe the Gladers.
Homestead
The main building in the Glade where the Gladers sleep and hold meetings.
The Scorch
A desolate landscape filled with crumbled cities, invaded by the Flare.
Crank
A person who has been heavily affected by the Flare virus.
Map Room
A room in the Glade where Runners map the sections of the Maze they explore each day.
Berg
A form of transport, like a flying vehicle, used by WICKED and the Right Arm.
Griever Hole
An exit in the Maze wall used by the Grievers to leave and enter the Maze.
Shank
A term used by Gladers to refer to a new and inexperienced person.
The Right Arm
A resistance group against WICKED's ways and experiments.
Keeper
A Glader in charge of a specific section or role in the community.
The Swipe
An implanted device by WICKED that wipes a subject's memories.
The Trials
Dangerous tests the Gladers are put through by WICKED.
Variables
Elements introduced by WICKED into the Trials to stimulate and study human behavior.
