Tropical Rainforest Climate
Characteristics: High precipitation, constant high temperatures. Locations: Amazon Basin, Congo Basin, Southeast Asia.
Tropical Monsoon Climate
Characteristics: Seasonal reversal in prevailing winds, high rainfall in wet season. Locations: Indian subcontinent, parts of Southeast Asia.
Tropical Savanna Climate
Characteristics: Distinct wet and dry seasons, warm temperatures. Locations: Parts of Africa, South America, and Australia.
Desert Climate
Characteristics: Extremely low precipitation, high temperature variability. Locations: Sahara, Arabian, Gobi, and Great Basin deserts.
Semi-Arid Climate
Characteristics: More precipitation than deserts, hot summers, and cool winters. Locations: Areas bordering deserts, like parts of the U.S. Great Plains.
Mediterranean Climate
Characteristics: Mild, wet winters and hot, dry summers. Locations: Coastal regions around the Mediterranean Sea, California, parts of Chile and Australia.
Humid Subtropical Climate
Characteristics: Hot, humid summers and mild winters. Locations: Southeastern U.S., parts of China, and eastern Australia.
Marine West Coast Climate
Characteristics: Mild temperatures, high precipitation spread throughout the year. Locations: Western Europe, parts of the Pacific Northwest of the U.S., and New Zealand.
Oceanic Climate
Characteristics: Mild temperatures, narrow temperature range, ample precipitation. Locations: Includes parts of Coastal Western Europe and small segments of the western U.S.
Continental Climate
Characteristics: Large seasonal temperature differences, precipitation varies. Locations: Interiors of North America and Eurasia.
Subarctic Climate
Characteristics: Very cold winters, short cool summers. Locations: Northern parts of Russia, Canada, and Scandinavia.
Tundra Climate
Characteristics: Very cold year-round, little precipitation, permafrost. Locations: Coastal areas of Greenland, Northern Siberia, and the Canadian Arctic.
Ice Cap Climate
Characteristics: Permanent ice and snow cover, temperatures rarely rise above freezing. Locations: The interior of Greenland and Antarctica.
Highland Climate
Characteristics: Wide temperature range, weather patterns change with altitude. Locations: High elevation areas such as the Andes, Himalayas, and Rocky Mountains.
Polar Climate
Characteristics: Extremely cold temperatures, ice-covered lands, minimal vegetation. Locations: Antarctic and Arctic regions.
Equatorial Climate
Characteristics: Little temperature variation, high humidity, abundant rainfall. Locations: Within 5 degrees of latitude of the equator.
Tropical Wet and Dry Climate
Characteristics: Clear wet and dry seasons, savannas and grasslands. Locations: Central South America, northern Australia, and central Africa.
Warm Summer Continental Climate
Characteristics: Warm, often humid summers, cold winters, moderate precipitation. Locations: Portions of the Interior Northeastern U.S., Central and Eastern Canada, Northern Europe, and Asia.
Cool Summer Continental Climate
Characteristics: Cool summers, long cold winters, moderate to low precipitation. Locations: Areas farther north than the warm summer subtype, including parts of Canada, Scandinavia, and Siberia.
Dry Summer Subtropical Climate
Characteristics: Hot dry summers, mild wet winters, vegetation adapted to drought. Locations: Western coasts of continents, between 30 to 45 degrees latitude, such as parts of Southern California, the Mediterranean region, and Western Australia.
Humid Continental Climate
Characteristics: Four distinct seasons with hot summers and cold winters, adequate precipitation. Locations: Northeastern U.S., Eastern Europe, and parts of China and Japan.
Steppe Climate
Characteristics: Semi-arid, more rainfall than deserts, short grasses. Locations: Around deserts and semi-arid basins such as the Eurasian Steppe, Great Plains of the U.S., and Patagonia in Argentina.
Ice Cap Polar Climate
Characteristics: Permanent ice, extremely low temperatures year-round, sparse precipitation. Locations: Antarctica and Greenland's interior.
Dfb Climate
Characteristics: Humid Continental climate, with warm summers, no dry season, cold winters. Locations: Much of Central and Eastern Europe, Northeastern China, and parts of the Great Lakes region in the U.S.
