HTTP
Hypertext Transfer Protocol - An application-level protocol for distributed, collaborative, hypermedia information systems that is the foundation of data communication for the World Wide Web.
LAN
Local Area Network - A network that connects computers and devices in a limited geographical area such as a home, school, office building, or closely positioned group of buildings.
WLAN
Wireless Local Area Network - A wireless distribution method for two or more devices that use high-frequency radio waves and often include an access point to the Internet.
IP
Internet Protocol - The principal communications protocol in the Internet protocol suite for relaying datagrams across network boundaries, ensuring the delivery of packets and addressing hosts.
P2P
Peer-to-Peer - A distributed application architecture that partitions tasks or workloads among peers. Peers are equally privileged, equipotent participants in the application.
HTTPS
Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure - An extension of HTTP for secure communication over a computer network, with encryption provided through Transport Layer Security (TLS).
NAT
Network Address Translation - A method of remapping one IP address space into another by modifying network address information in the IP header of packets while they are in transit across a traffic routing device.
SMTP
Simple Mail Transfer Protocol - An Internet standard for electronic mail (email) transmission across Internet Protocol (IP) networks.
VoIP
Voice over Internet Protocol - A methodology and group of technologies for the delivery of voice communications and multimedia sessions over Internet Protocol (IP) networks, such as the Internet.
SDN
Software-Defined Networking - An approach to networking that uses software-based controllers or application programming interfaces (APIs) to direct traffic on the network and communicate with the underlying hardware infrastructure.
DNS
Domain Name System - A hierarchical and decentralized naming system for computers, services, or other resources connected to the Internet or a private network that translates domain names to IP addresses.
SSID
Service Set Identifier - A technical term for a network name, it's the name you see when you connect to a wireless network.
OSI
Open Systems Interconnection - A conceptual model that characterizes and standardizes the communication functions of a telecommunications or computing system without regard to its underlying internal structure and technology.
MPLS
Multiprotocol Label Switching - A type of data-carrying technique for high-performance telecommunications networks that directs data from one network node to the next based on short path labels rather than long network addresses.
QoS
Quality of Service - The description or measurement of the overall performance of a service, such as telephony or computer networking, particularly the performance seen by the users of the network.
FTP
File Transfer Protocol - A standard network protocol used for the transfer of computer files between a client and server on a computer network.
IMAP
Internet Message Access Protocol - An Internet standard protocol used by email clients to retrieve messages from a mail server over a TCP/IP connection.
POP
Post Office Protocol - An application-layer Internet standard protocol used by email clients to retrieve email from a mail server.
BGP
Border Gateway Protocol - The protocol that is used to make core routing decisions on the Internet; it involves a table of IP networks or prefixes which designate network reachability among autonomous systems.
VPN
Virtual Private Network - A service that allows you to connect to the Internet via an encrypted tunnel to ensure your online privacy and protect your sensitive data.
SNMP
Simple Network Management Protocol - An Internet Standard protocol for collecting and organizing information about managed devices on IP networks and for modifying that information to change device behavior.
ARP
Address Resolution Protocol - A communication protocol used for discovering the link layer address, such as a MAC address, associated with a given internet layer address, typically an IPv4 address.
DHCP
Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol - A network management protocol used on Internet Protocol networks whereby a DHCP server dynamically assigns an IP address and other network configuration parameters to each device on the network.
TCP
Transmission Control Protocol - A core protocol of the Internet Protocol suite that provides reliable, ordered, and error-checked delivery of a stream of data between applications running on hosts communicating over an IP network.
WAN
Wide Area Network - A telecommunications network that extends over a large geographic area for the main purpose of computer networking.
