Invasion of Privacy
An intentional intrusion upon the solitude or seclusion of another or the public disclosure of private facts, which would be offensive to a reasonable person. Example: Looking through someone's window into their home or releasing private information without permission.
Conversion
An intentional exercise of dominion or control over another's personal property which so seriously interferes with the right of another to control it that the actor may justly be required to pay for the full value of the item. Example: Selling someone else's car without their permission.
Battery
The intentional and offensive or harmful contact with another person without their consent. Example: Punching someone during a disagreement.
Trespass to Chattels
The intentional interference with another's use or possession of personal property. Example: Taking and using someone's bike without permission.
Fraud
Intentional misrepresentation of material fact, known to be false by the wrongdoer, for the purpose of inducing another to act, and upon which the other party relies to their detriment. Example: Selling a car with a hidden defect that the seller knows about, but tells the buyer it's in excellent condition.
Assault
Intentionally causing another person to apprehend an immediate harmful or offensive contact. Example: Swinging a fist at someone but not making contact.
Intentional Infliction of Emotional Distress
Intentional or reckless conduct that is extreme and outrageous, causing severe emotional distress to another. Example: A campaign of harassment and threats over time.
Trespass to Land
Intentionally entering or remaining on the land of another without permission. Example: Walking through someone's private property without permission.
Defamation
The intentional publication of a false statement about another that damages their reputation. Example: Spreading a false rumor that a person has committed a crime.
False Imprisonment
The intentional confinement of a person against their will without lawful privilege. Example: Locking someone in a room without an escape.
