Palm Muting
Resting the side of your picking hand against the strings near the bridge to mute the notes being played, creating a dampened, percussive sound.
Hammer-on
A technique where you pluck a string and then use another finger to press down on a higher fret, creating a second note without picking again.
Vibrato
A technique of rapidly and repeatedly bending and releasing a string to create a pulsating effect.
Bend
The technique of pushing the strings up or pulling them down to raise the pitch of a note.
Pull-off
Performed by plucking a note and then lifting the fretting finger to sound a lower note on the same string.
Slide
Moving your finger from one fret to another on the same string, sounding all the intermediate notes.
Pinch Harmonic
Creating a high-pitched sound by lightly touching the string with the thumb immediately after picking.
Strumming
Sweeping the pick or fingers across the strings to play chords.
Tapping
A technique where both hands are used on the fretboard, with the picking hand 'tapping' notes on the fretboard.
Natural Harmonic
A clear bell-like sound produced by lightly touching a string at certain points (nodal points) on the fretboard and then plucking the string.
