Ebony
Very dense and hard, smooth and slick feel, bright tone with good sustain, often used for fretboards.
Alder
Lightweight, balanced tone with some emphasis on midrange, popular in many Fender electric guitars.
Basswood
Lightweight, soft wood, balanced tone with a bit more emphasis on low and mid frequencies.
Rosewood
Dense and heavy, warm tone, typically used for fretboards, adds complexity to the guitar's tone.
Maple
Hard and heavy, bright tone with good sustain, commonly used for necks and fretboards as well as the bodies of some guitars.
Koa
From Hawaii, dense wood with a warm but bright tone, midrange is pronounced; its tone matures with age and playing.
