Pattern Interruption
Disrupts the subject's normal cognitive patterns by interrupting a habitual action, leading to a brief moment of pause and openness to suggestion.
Confusion Technique
Overwhelms the conscious mind with confusing or nonsensical information or instructions, leading to a trance as the mind tries to sort through the confusion.
Anchoring
The process of associating an internal response with a trigger or cue in order to evoke a specific state or behavior on demand.
Post-Hypnotic Suggestion
A suggestion made to the subject during hypnosis, which is intended to be acted upon after they have emerged from the hypnotic state.
Breath Counting Induction
A relaxation technique inducing hypnosis by focusing the subject's attention on slow, deep breathing and counting breaths.
Pendulum Method
Uses a pendulum or similar object that the subject concentrates on as it swings back and forth, leading to increased concentration and hypnotic induction.
Visualization Technique
Guides the subject to visualize a peaceful and calming scene, which relaxes the mind and body and encourages the slide into hypnosis.
Rapid Induction
Quickly induces hypnosis through a sudden, unexpected action or command that captures full attention and induces a trance state.
Eye Fixation Technique
A classic hypnotic induction method that involves having the subject fixate their gaze on an object, leading to eye fatigue and increased suggestibility.
Progressive Relaxation Induction
A method to induce hypnosis by calming the body progressively from one end to the other, often starting at the feet and moving to the head.
Fractionalization Technique
Induces hypnosis by repeatedly bringing the subject in and out of the hypnotic state, deepening the trance with each iteration.
Guided Imagery
Takes the subject on a mental journey to a relaxing or significant place or event which helps them to deeply relax and be open to hypnotic suggestion.
Arm Levitation Induction
Involves suggesting that one of the subject's arms is becoming lighter and may begin to rise on its own, encouraging a focus inward and a shift to a hypnotic state.
Repetition Technique
Utilizes repeated words or phrases to gradually dull the subject's conscious awareness and slip into a hypnotic state.
Utilization Technique
Makes use of the subject's immediate environment, experiences, or behaviors to guide them into a hypnotic state more effectively.
