Yarn Bombing
A type of street art that uses colorful knitted or crocheted yarn to cover objects in public space, such as trees, benches, lamp posts, and even buses. This technique is about personalizing and softening urban environments.
Light Painting
A photographic technique in which exposures are made by moving a hand-held light source or by moving the camera. In street art, it's often used in combination with night-time settings to create ephemeral works that cannot be easily removed.
Shadow Art
An artistic technique that constructs pieces of art using shadows cast by objects. This form of art plays with the concept of light and space, often creating an image that is only visible from a certain viewpoint.
Trompe-l'oeil
A realistic painting technique that creates an optical illusion of three-dimensionality. It's used to deceive the viewer into thinking they're seeing real objects or scenes.
Spray Paint Freehand
A style where the artist uses spray paint without the aid of stencils or other outlining tools, often characterized by unique blends and gradations of color. This technique is celebrated for its expressive and fluid quality.
Mosaic Tile
A decorative art form that assembles small pieces of colored glass, stone, or other materials to create a larger image. It's durable and often used for public and community art pieces.
Wheatpasting
A popular street art technique involving pasting paper or posters onto surfaces with an adhesive made from wheat. It's quick, inexpensive, and typically used for posted notices, guerrilla marketing, and street art.
Installation Art
This method involves creating three-dimensional artworks that are designed to transform the perception of a space. It's often used to make interactive and engaging street art that requires participation or observation.
Stenciling
A technique using cut-outs to apply a design or illustration to a surface with spray paint or rollers. It allows for easy replication and a clean, crisp finish, commonly used in making political statements or for quick and efficient street art deployment.
Reverse Graffiti
A method where the artist removes dirt or grime from a surface to create an image, effectively cleaning parts of a wall to make art. It's an environmentally-friendly technique and is also known as 'clean tagging.'
