Flashcards
0/12
Forward March
Begin marching forward from a halt, starting with the left foot, and maintaining a consistent stride and tempo.
Backward March
Begin marching backward, lifting the toes first, and maintaining an even tempo without compromising posture.
Dress the Line
Adjust the formation to ensure even spacing and alignment with other band members, without moving the feet.
Horns Up
Bring the instrument to playing position quickly and with precision, ready to play when the command is given.
Horns Down
Lower the instrument from playing position to a resting position smoothly and quickly after a cut-off or command.
Parade Rest
Spread feet shoulder-width apart, place instrument on the right side, and relax while staying silent and alert.
Mark Time March
March in place, lifting feet to a prescribed height, usually the same as the marching step, without moving forward.
To the Rear
Marchers perform a 180-degree turn over the right shoulder while marking time, then continue marching in the new direction.
Cover Down
Check for proper alignment with the person directly in front of you, usually done by glancing up with the eyes only.
Step Size
Adjust stride length to ensure that a set number of steps fits precisely into a given distance, usually 8-to-5 (8 steps per 5 yards).
Left/Right Flank
Execute a 90-degree turn on the ball of the pivoting foot, stepping off in the new direction with the opposite foot.
Attention Position
Stand with feet together, instrument in front at a resting position, eyes forward, and maintain silence.
