Bell
The flared end of the tuba that projects the sound.
Mouthpiece
The detachable part where the player buzzes their lips to produce sound.
Valves
Responsible for changing the pitch by redirecting air through additional tubing.
Slides
Tubes used to manually tune the tuba by adjusting their length.
Leadpipe
The tube connecting the mouthpiece to the rest of the instrument.
Water Key
Used to release moisture from the instrument.
Valve Casings
Cylindrical enclosures that house the valves.
Valve Caps
Located at the top and bottom of valves to provide access for maintenance.
Finger Buttons
The parts depressed to engage the valves.
Rotary Valves
Type of valve turned by a rotor to change the path of airflow.
Piston Valves
Type of valve that moves up and down to redirect air through the instrument.
Main Tuning Slide
The largest slide, used to tune the instrument to the desired pitch.
Fourth Valve Slide (if applicable)
A slide specifically for the additional valve used to reach lower notes.
Fifth Valve Slide (if applicable)
Tubas with a fifth valve will have an additional slide to tune this valve.
Tuba Body
The large brass structure made up of all the coiled tubing.
