Flashcards

Valve oil application
To apply valve oil, first remove the valve from the casing, apply a few drops of oil to the valve, and then rotate the valve to spread the oil evenly before reinserting.
Polishing the trumpet
For lacquered trumpets, use a soft cloth and lacquer polish. For silver-plated trumpets, use a gentle silver polish. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions.
Cleaning the valve casings
Use a valve casing brush and soapy water to gently scrub the insides of the valve casings. Rinse with clean water and dry before returning the valves.
Checking valve springs
Remove the valves and check the springs for rust or damage. Compressed springs should be replaced to ensure optimal valve response.
Greasing the slides
Remove each tuning slide, apply a small amount of slide grease to the slide tubes, and move the slide in and out to distribute the grease.
Cleaning the mouthpiece
Use a mouthpiece brush with warm, soapy water to clean inside the mouthpiece. Rinse with clean water and dry before attaching it back to the trumpet.
Replacing the water key cork
Remove the old cork, clean the area, cut the new cork to size if necessary, glue it in place, and then trim any excess material.
Disassembling for deep cleaning
Remove all removable parts, such as valves and slides, and soak the body of the trumpet in lukewarm water with mild detergent. Gently use a flexible brush to clean the interior tubing.
Inspecting for air leaks
Check each joint and connection for air leaks by applying gentle pressure to the instrument and listening for hissing sounds, or feeling for air escaping.
Aligning the valves
After applying valve oil, use the valve guide notches to align the valves with the corresponding slots in the valve casing, ensuring smooth up and down movement.
