Fermata
Hold the note longer than its normal duration.
Clef
A symbol that designates the pitch of written notes and indicates the name and pitch of the notes on the staff.
Sharp
Raises the pitch of a note by a semitone.
Flat
Lowers the pitch of a note by a semitone.
Natural
Cancels any previous sharps or flats and returns the note to its natural pitch.
Staccato
Play the note sharply detached or separated from the others.
Slur
Indicates that notes under the slur should be played without separation.
Tie
Connects two notes of the same pitch, indicating they should be played as a single note with a combined duration.
Crescendo
Gradually increase the volume of the music.
Diminuendo
Gradually decrease the volume of the music.
Accent
Emphasizes a note with an increased intensity or volume compared to the notes around it.
Time Signature
Notates the number of beats in each measure and the note value that gets one beat.
Key Signature
Indicates the key of the music by dictating which notes are to be played as sharps or flats throughout the piece.

Indicates that a section should be played more than once.
Da Capo
Instructs the musician to repeat from the beginning of the piece.
Dal Segno
Directs the musician to repeat from the sign (𝄋) placed earlier in the music.
Segno
The sign that is used in conjunction with 'Dal Segno'. Indicates where to return when the 'Dal Segno' is reached.
Coda
A concluding section of a piece of music or movement after the main elements have been presented.
Tempo
The speed of the underlying beat of the music.
Dynamics
The volume of the music, which can change throughout a piece.
