Secure Attachment
Definition: A form of attachment where the child feels confident and is able to depend on their caregiver. Attachment Style Correlation: Children with secure attachment feel comfortable exploring their environment and seek comfort from the caregiver when distressed.
Avoidant Attachment
Definition: An attachment style where the child is indifferent toward their caregiver and may avoid them. Attachment Style Correlation: Children with avoidant attachment tend to avoid or ignore the caregiver, showing little emotion when the caregiver departs or returns.
Ambivalent (or Resistant) Attachment
Definition: An attachment style characterized by anxiety and uncertainty. Attachment Style Correlation: Children with ambivalent attachment are wary about the situation, and their exploration is limited. They are very distressed by the caregiver's departure but ambivalent when the caregiver returns.
Disorganized Attachment
Definition: A type of attachment where there is a lack of clear attachment behavior. Attachment Style Correlation: Children with disorganized attachment show a lack of coherent strategy in dealing with the stress of separation and reunion with the caregiver, often appearing confused or apprehensive in their presence.
