Sensory Memory
The initial stage of memory where brief retention of information is possible through sensory experience, such as 'iconic memory' for visual stimuli or 'echoic memory' for auditory stimuli.
Short-Term Memory (STM)
A memory storage system that holds information temporarily for analysis and retrieves information from Long-Term Memory (LTM), with a capacity of 7 plus or minus 2 items and a duration up to 30 seconds without rehearsal.
Long-Term Memory (LTM)
A memory storage system capable of storing large quantities of information for potentially limitless durations. It is encoded either semantically (by meaning) or episodically (by personal experience).
