Anthropogenic Erosion
Erosion caused by human activities, such as deforestation and construction. Examples include accelerated soil erosion from agriculture and urban development.
Wind Erosion
The transport of materials by the wind, often seen in arid environments. Examples are desert dunes and deflation hollows.
Water Erosion
The removal of soil and rock by water movement, such as streams and rainfall. Examples include river valleys and coastal erosion.
Glacial Erosion
Occurs when glaciers move and reshape the landscape by plucking and abrasion. Examples include fjords and U-shaped valleys.
Sea Erosion
The action of seawater on coastal features, often through wave action. Examples include sea arches and sea stacks.
Chemical Erosion
Also known as chemical weathering, it involves the chemical breakdown of rocks and minerals. Examples include karst landscapes and cave formations.
Thermal Erosion
Occurs due to temperature changes that cause expansion and contraction of rock, leading to fragmentation. Examples include frost shattering and exfoliation domes.
River Erosion
The wearing away of riverbanks and the river bed by the flow of water. Examples include meanders and oxbow lakes.
Mass Wasting
Also known as mass movement, it's the downward movement of soil and rock due to gravity. Examples include landslides and rockfalls.
Biological Erosion
Erosion caused by living organisms, such as the digging of animals or plant root growth. Examples include burrowed coastlines and root weathering.
