Light-year
A light-year is the distance that light travels in one year in a vacuum. It is used to measure vast distances in space, such as between stars and galaxies. One light-year is approximately 9.46 trillion kilometers (about 5.88 trillion miles).
Parsec
A parsec is equivalent to approximately 3.26 light-years and is defined as the distance at which one astronomical unit subtends an angle of one arcsecond. It's a common unit of measure for distances to objects outside our solar system.
Astronomical Unit (AU)
An astronomical unit is approximately the mean distance between the Earth and the Sun, about 149.6 million kilometers (93 million miles). It is commonly used to measure distances within our solar system.
Kiloparsec
A kiloparsec is 1,000 parsecs and is used to measure distances within the Milky Way or to nearby galaxies. For example, the center of the Milky Way is about 8 kiloparsecs from Earth.
