Seyfert Galaxy
Seyfert galaxies are a class of galaxies with nuclei that produce spectral line emissions from highly ionized gas. They are one of the two largest groups of active galaxies, along with quasars, and contribute to the understanding of active galactic nuclei (AGN).
Radio Galaxy
Radio galaxies emit large amounts of radio frequency radiation from their central nuclei. They provide insights into the interaction between relativistic jets and the intergalactic medium and can influence galaxy evolution by their feedback processes.
Blazar
Blazars are a type of active galactic nucleus that are particularly bright and variable. Their emission is thought to be produced by jets of charged particles moving near the speed of light, oriented close to our line of sight. Studying blazars is essential for understanding the jet phenomena in AGNs.
Quasar
A Quasar, or Quasi-Stellar Radio Source, is an extremely bright and distant object powered by a supermassive black hole at its center. These are important for studying the early universe as they help understand the formation and evolution of galaxies.
Active Galactic Nucleus (AGN)
An AGN is the compact region at the center of a galaxy that has a much higher than normal luminosity over at least some portion of the electromagnetic spectrum. AGNs reveal the energetic processes near supermassive black holes and help understand the coevolution of galaxies and black holes.
