Dual Reality
Dual Reality involves presenting an experience that seems like one thing to the audience, but something different is happening 'behind the scenes'. Use this when you need to make the audience believe they have a full perspective when they actually don't.
Confidence and Boldness
Conveying confidence and performing bold moves as if they were completely natural helps in misdirecting the audience. Use this by executing the 'secret move' openly, but with the air of legitimacy, making the audience dismiss any suspicions.
Audio Misdirection
Audio Misdirection capitalizes on sound to divert attention. Use this tactic by creating a noise or mentioning a sound cue to shift the audience's focus momentarily.
Visual Misdirection
Visual Misdirection involves distracting the audience's gaze away from the secret action. Use this by executing a larger, more noticeable motion simultaneously with the sneaky move.
Social Misdirection
Social Misdirection relies on social cues, like gaze or pointing, to mislead the audience. Use this by making eye contact or gesturing towards something to subtly direct the audience’s attention.
Psychological Misdirection
Psychological Misdirection leverages the audience's assumptions and patterns of thought to hide the method. Use this by building up a false theory in their minds which you later refute with the magical effect.
Environment Misdirection
Environment Misdirection involves using the surrounding environment to conceal the method. Use this by integrating aspects of the performance space into the trick, drawing less suspicion to your actions.
Time Misdirection
Time Misdirection is a tactic where the magician performs the secret move well before the effect appears to happen. By the time the audience is looking for a method, the actual move is long past. Use this especially for tricks that require setup or secret moves in advance.
Narrative Misdirection
Narrative Misdirection uses a story or script to lead the audience's attention away from the secret move. Use this by embedding the moves within a story that captivates the audience's imagination and concentration.
Prop Misdirection
Prop Misdirection uses objects to draw the audience's attention away from the sleight of hand. Use this by strategically placing or moving a prop at a crucial moment to disguise your actions.
