GDS
Global Distribution System - a computerized network system used by travel agencies that provides real-time inventory and rates for hotels, flights, and car rentals.
PNR
Passenger Name Record - a code used in the travel industry that contains the itinerary for a passenger, or a group of passengers traveling together.
IATA Code
A unique 3-letter code used to identify airports and cities for ticketing and baggage handling.
Economy Class
The most basic and least expensive class of service offered by an airline.
Turnaround
The process of or time needed for loading, unloading, and servicing an aircraft between two consecutive flights.
Code-share
An arrangement between two airlines where one airline markets a flight operated by another airline under its own airline designator and flight number.

Extended-range Twin-engine Operational Performance Standards - regulations that allow twin-engine aircraft to fly routes that, at some points, are more than 60 minutes away from the nearest airport suitable for emergency landing.

Products sold to international travelers exempt from taxation by the country of departure.
Cabin Crew
Aircraft staff responsible for the comfort, safety, and welfare of passengers during a flight.
Mayday
An international radio distress signal used by aircraft and ships in life-threatening emergencies.
Deadhead
A crew member who is traveling in a passenger seat but is not working on that flight.
No-show
A passenger who fails to board and take their reserved seat on a flight without prior notice.
Frequent Flyer
A loyalty program that offers rewards to passengers who travel often with the same airline.
Hub
An airport that an airline uses as a transfer point to get passengers to their intended destination.
Layover
A period of rest or wait, often overnight, between segments of a longer journey where a change of planes is required.
Redeye
A flight departing late at night and arriving early the next morning, usually taking off after 9 pm and landing by 5 am.
Yield Management

An electronic recording device placed in an aircraft for the purpose of facilitating the investigation of aviation accidents and incidents.
MCT (Minimum Connection Time)
The shortest legal allowable time between scheduled arrival of an incoming flight and the scheduled departure of a connecting flight.
Overwing Exit
An emergency exit located over the wings of an aircraft, used for passenger egress if an evacuation is necessary.
Ramp
The airport area where aircraft are parked for boarding and deplaning, as well as for loading and unloading cargo.
Slot
A specific scheduled time when an airline can either takeoff or land at a particular airport.
Tailwind
A wind that blows in the same direction as the course of an aircraft, increasing its groundspeed and reducing travel times.
