Waltz
Characterized by its flowing movements and rise and fall action. Originated in the suburbs of Vienna and the alpine region of Austria.
Samba
A Brazilian dance with rhythmic bouncing actions and bending and straightening of the knees. Came from Brazil in the late 19th century.
Nightclub Two Step
A dance that pairs the simplicity of two-step rhythms with movements found in waltz, it was developed initially in the mid-1960s. It is a smooth and romantic dance often done to ballads.
Viennese Waltz
A very fast version of the waltz danced in a circular pattern around the floor. It originated in the early 18th century in Europe.
Bolero
A slow-tempo Latin dance with smooth, gliding movements, combining the rhythm of the Rumba with the rise and fall of the Waltz. Originated in Spain in the late 18th century.
East Coast Swing
A dance that evolved from the Lindy Hop with a simplified six-count variation. It's a rhythmic and joyful dance from the United States of America.
Bachata
Originating from the Dominican Republic, this dance is recognized for its side-to-side movements, close position, and the inclusion of a 'pop' on the hip on the 4th beat.

West Coast Swing
A slotted dance that allows for a lot of improvisation, it originated from the Lindy Hop and is more subdued and bluesy compared to its East Coast cousin.
Foxtrot
Features a combination of slow and quick steps. Developed in the USA in the 1910s.
Mambo
Originated in Cuba in the 1940s, it involves a hip-swaying motion and a heavy emphasis on the second beat of the music.
Salsa
A vibrant and spicy dance that combines elements from Cuban Son, Cha Cha and Mambo with other Caribbean influences. Originated in the 1960s in New York with strong influences from Latin America.
Paso Doble
This dance mimics the movements of a bullfight and is theatrical in style. It originated in France, but is modeled on the Spanish bullfight.
Merengue
Characterized by its marching rhythms and Cuban motion, this dance is the national dance of the Dominican Republic.
Hustle
A fast-paced dance popularized in the 1970s disco era, characterized by its turns, spins, and wraps. It originated in the United States.
