A-Line
A dress or skirt silhouette that is narrower at the top, flaring gently wider toward the bottom resembling the letter A.
Ball Gown
A type of silhouette with a fitted bodice and a dramatic full skirt.
Empire Waist
Characterized by a fitted bodice ending just below the bust, giving a high-waisted appearance, and a gathered skirt which is long and loosely fitting.
Column
A narrow shape that flows straight down from the neckline to the hem. Also known as a sheath silhouette.
Mermaid
Fits closely to the body from the chest to the knee, then flares out to the hem.
Trumpet
A silhouette that is fitted through the body and flares at mid-thigh, similar to a mermaid style but with a softer flare.
Shift
A straight silhouette that falls from the shoulders with little definition at the waist.
Peplum
A silhouette with a short, flared, gathered, or pleated strip of fabric attached at the waist of a woman's jacket, dress, or blouse.
Princess
Features long, smooth seams that run from the neckline to the hem. These seams follow the body's curves and create a slimming effect.
Tent
A silhouette that hangs loose from the shoulder and flares out to a wide hemline, creating a tent-like shape.
Wrap
A silhouette where one side of the garment wraps across the other side tying at the waist or back creating a V-shaped neckline.
Fit and Flare
Fitted through the bodice and flaring out at the waist, this silhouette is often described as a less dramatic version of the A-line silhouette.
Bouffant
A puffy silhouette created by gathering fabric at the waist to create volume in the skirt.
Bodycon
A close-fitting silhouette that hugs the body and shows off the figure. Made from stretchy material.
Kaftan
A long, loose, and flowing silhouette with wide sleeves, originating from the Middle East.
