Update Software/Firmware
Update the software or firmware of your computerized telescope to ensure optimal performance and new features. Perform updates as they become available.
Battery Replacement/Charge
Ensure all electronic components such as motor drives have adequately charged batteries. Check before each observing session.
Cleaning Optical Surfaces
Carefully remove dust and possible smudges from lenses and mirrors using proper cleaning supplies. This should be performed every couple of months or when noticeably dirty.
Checking for Dew
Prevent the formation of dew on lenses and mirrors by using dew shields or heaters. Check for dew before and after observing sessions.
Alignment of Finderscope
Regularly align the finderscope with the main telescope to ensure accurate targeting. Check alignment before each observing session.
Mirror Coating
Re-coating of the primary and secondary mirrors to maintain reflectivity. This is generally required every few years depending on usage and environmental conditions.
Lubrication of Moving Parts
Apply suitable lubricants to bearings and gears to ensure smooth motion. This task should be performed annually or as needed.
Focuser Maintenance
Maintain the focuser by cleaning, lubricating, and checking for mechanical integrity. This should be done annually or if issues arise.
Collimation Adjustment
Align the telescope's optics to ensure optimal performance. This should be done every few observing sessions or after moving the telescope a significant distance.
Storage Condition Check
Check the storage conditions of the telescope to prevent mold growth and mechanical issues. Ensure a cool, dry, dust-free environment. Check condition every month.
