Scalability
Scalability is the ability of a system to expand to meet increasing demand. Importance: Essential in cloud computing to accommodate growing workloads without compromising performance.
Cloud Computing Architecture
Cloud Computing Architecture refers to the components and subcomponents required for cloud computing, which include a front-end platform, back-end platforms, a cloud-based delivery, and a network. Importance: This architecture defines how various services and components integrate to meet cloud computing needs.
Elasticity
Elasticity is the ability of a system to dynamically provision and de-provision resources to match the current demand as closely as possible. Importance: Allows for cost-effective and efficient resource utilization.
Virtualization
Virtualization is the creation of a virtual version of something, such as a server, a desktop, a storage device, network resources or an operating system. Importance: Allows for more efficient utilization of physical computer hardware and provides a layer of abstraction.
API (Application Programming Interface)
API in cloud computing refers to a set of protocols and tools for building application software and interfaces that enable control and access to cloud services and resources. Importance: Facilitates interaction between different software components and the seamless integration of cloud services.
Hybrid Cloud
Hybrid Cloud is a solution that combines a private cloud with one or more public cloud services, with proprietary software enabling communication between each distinct service. Importance: Offers businesses greater flexibility and more data deployment options.
Resource Pooling
Resource Pooling is the provider’s computing resources that are pooled to serve multiple consumers using a multi-tenant model. Importance: Leads to economies of scale and maximizes the efficiency of resource allocation.
SaaS
Software as a Service (SaaS) is a model for the distribution of software where customers access software over the Internet. Importance: Provides a complete software solution that you purchase on a pay-as-you-go basis from a cloud service provider.
Fault Tolerance
Fault Tolerance is the ability of a system to continue operating properly in the event of the failure of some of its components. Importance: Ensures high availability and reliability of cloud services.
Measured Service
Measured Service is a cloud computing service model that controls and optimizes resource use by leveraging a metering capability at some level of abstraction appropriate to the type of service (e.g., storage, processing). Importance: Enables resource usage tracking and cost management.
Public Cloud
Public Cloud is a type of computing in which a service provider makes resources available to the public over the internet. Importance: Offers greater scalability and access to a variety of services at a lower cost.
Cloud Computing
Cloud Computing refers to the on-demand availability of computer system resources, especially data storage and computing power, without direct active management by the user. Importance: Key for delivering IT resources efficiently and scalably over the internet.
PaaS
Platform as a Service (PaaS) provides a platform allowing customers to develop, run, and manage applications without the complexity of building and maintaining the infrastructure. Importance: Simplifies web application development and deployment.
IaaS
Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) is a form of cloud computing that provides virtualized computing resources over the internet. Importance: Offers a scalable and flexible hardware resource such as storage and networking.
Multi-Tenancy
Multi-Tenancy refers to a principle in software architecture where a single instance of a software runs on a server and serves multiple tenants. Importance: Increases resource utilization and lowers costs by sharing infrastructure.
Cloud Service Provider (CSP)
A Cloud Service Provider (CSP) is a company that offers cloud managed services to businesses and/or individuals. Importance: CSPs facilitate the use of cloud technology, offering varying levels of service at a scale that would be difficult for individuals to achieve.
Broad Network Access
Broad Network Access involves making services available over the network and accessed through standard mechanisms by heterogeneous thin or thick client platforms (e.g., laptops, smartphones). Importance: Ensures accessibility and convenience for users.
Cloud Storage
Cloud Storage is a model of computer data storage where the digital data is stored in logical pools, across multiple servers and locations. Importance: Offers scalability, reliability, and availability for data storage.
Private Cloud
Private Cloud is a type of cloud computing that delivers similar advantages to public cloud, including scalability and self-service, but through a proprietary architecture. Importance: Offers enhanced security and control.
On-Demand Self-Service
On-Demand Self-Service allows users to automatically provision computing capabilities, such as server time and network storage, as needed without requiring human interaction with each service provider. Importance: Increases agility and reduces service provisioning time.
