Vertical Tango
Dancers perform a tango on a vertical surface, defying gravity. Special rigs and choreography create the illusion they are dancing on the ground.
The Aerial Silk Dance
Performers dance and contort their bodies in midair, suspended by silk fabrics. Their strength and the fabric's tension create the illusion of floating.
Chinese Pole
Acrobats climb, slide, and hold poses on a vertical pole. Friction and strength overcome gravity, making performers appear weightless.
The Levitating Ballerina
A ballet dancer appears to levitate while spinning or performing en pointe. Supports are hidden by costumes or masked by the dancer's movements.
The Gravity-Defying Wheel
Also known as the Cyr wheel, the performer spins and manipulates a large hoop to create the illusion of defying gravity. Dexterity and momentum make the act seem impossible.
The Flying Trapeze
An act where acrobats swing and perform tricks on a moving trapeze. Centrifugal force and precise timing create the illusion that performers are flying.
Anti-Gravity Lean
Popularized by Michael Jackson, this illusion is performed by leaning forward far beyond the center of balance. Special shoes with pegs that slot into the stage floor help to achieve this act.
The Floating Lady
The illusion where a woman appears to float in the air. It is often achieved using a hidden support such as a thin wire or a concealed platform.
Human Cannonball
An individual is launched from a large cannon and flies through the air before landing safely. A combination of propulsion and careful calculations create the illusion of superhuman flight.
Rola Bola Balancing Act
An artist balances on a board atop a cylindrical object. Skill and a low center of gravity make it appear as though the performer is defying natural balance.
