Main Mast
A central pole supporting the peak of the tent, typically where the circus lights and trapeze are rigged.
Guy Lines
Tensioned cables or ropes attached to the side poles or main mast, anchored to the ground to maintain the tent's stability.
Quarter Poles
Poles located between the main and side poles to provide additional support and maintain the shape of the tent.
Side Poles
Poles positioned around the edge of the tent to hold up the sidewalls and the edge of the tent roof.
King Pole
The largest central pole in a circus tent, designed to support the majority of the canvas and the aerial rigging.
Bale Ring
A large, usually steel, ring located at the top of the main mast from which the tent canvas is suspended.
Wall Ropes
These ropes secure the lower edge of the canvas walls to stakes in the ground to keep the walls taut and in place.
Stakes
Long metal or wooden pins driven into the ground to secure guy lines, wall ropes, and other tent elements.
Cupola
The uppermost peak of the circus tent, often ornately designed and where the flag is placed, representing the highest point of the tent.
Circus Ring
The central area within the tent where performances occur, typically surrounded by tiers of seats for the audience.
