Classical Orchestra Arrangement
Features a woodwind section behind the strings, brass behind woodwinds, and percussion at the rear. This arrangement is best for balanced classical symphonies.
Chamber Orchestra Arrangement
Smaller ensemble with one player per part or a few per section. Good for intimate settings and chamber music from the Baroque, Classical, or contemporary periods.
Germanic Orchestra Arrangement
The violins are divided on both sides of the podium, with cellos and violas towards the center. Best for music that features antiphonal effects between the violins.
Contemporary Orchestra Arrangement
Places instruments based on the needs of the modern compositions being performed, often with unusual placements. It's best for avant-garde and contemporary works.
Film Scoring Orchestra Arrangement
Designed to complement cinematic storytelling, this may include an expanded percussion section or synthesizers. Ideal for recording film scores.
Jazz Orchestra Arrangement
Typically includes a rhythm section, brass, and woodwinds. Arrangement facilitates improvisation and interaction. Best for big band jazz and swing.
Baroque Orchestra Arrangement
Focus is on strings, harpsichord, and a few wind instruments. Smaller than later orchestras and great for the intricacies of Baroque music.
String Orchestra Arrangement
Musicians are arranged in a semi-circle, with the first violins, second violins, violas, cellos, and double basses fanning out from the conductor. Best for classical string ensemble pieces.
Opera Orchestra Arrangement
Similar to the classical orchestra but often includes more woodwinds, brass, and percussion to support the dramatic elements of an opera.
Symphony Orchestra Arrangement
Larger orchestra with multiple players per part, particularly in the strings. The arrangement supports complex symphonies from Romantic period onwards.
