Curiosity Rover
Landing on Mars in 2012, Curiosity Rover's mission is to explore the Red Planet's climate and geology, and assess whether the Gale Crater ever offered environmental conditions favorable for microbial life.
Kepler Space Telescope
Launched in 2009, Kepler's mission was to discover Earth-size planets orbiting other stars in the habitable zone. It found over 2,600 exoplanets and expanded our understanding of planetary systems.
Parker Solar Probe
Launched in 2018, the Parker Solar Probe aims to study the Sun more closely than any previous mission, investigating its atmosphere and trying to answer fundamental questions about solar wind and solar magnetic fields.
New Horizons
Launched in 2006, New Horizons conducted a flyby of Pluto in 2015, providing the first high-resolution images of the dwarf planet and its moons. It has since been exploring other Kuiper Belt objects.
Cassini-Huygens
Launched in 1997, the Cassini spacecraft spent 13 years orbiting Saturn, studying the planet, its rings, and moons. The Huygens probe landed on Titan, Saturn's largest moon, revealing a world with rivers and lakes of liquid hydrocarbons.
James Webb Space Telescope
Scheduled for operation in 2021, the James Webb Space Telescope aims to study the Universe's formation, including the first galaxies, and the atmospheres of potentially habitable exoplanets.
Voyager 2
Similar to its sister craft, Voyager 2 was launched in 1977 and aimed to explore the outer planets. It is the only spacecraft to have visited Uranus and Neptune, discovering 10 new moons and two new rings of Uranus.
Voyager 1
Launched in 1977, Voyager 1's primary mission was to study the outer planets. It is now the first human-made object in interstellar space, and it discovered 16 moons in orbit around Jupiter and Saturn.
TESS
Launched in 2018, the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) mission is to discover thousands of exoplanets around nearby bright stars using the transit method, expanding on Kepler's work.
Mars Perseverance Rover
Perseverance rover landed on Mars in February 2021. Its mission is to search for signs of past life, collect soil and rock samples, and prepare for future human exploration.
Hubble Space Telescope
Launched in 1990, the Hubble Telescope orbits Earth and has provided some of the most detailed images of distant stars and galaxies, leading to breakthroughs in astrophysics, including the rate of expansion of the universe.
OSIRIS-REx
Launched in 2016, OSIRIS-REx's mission is to retrieve a sample from the near-Earth asteroid Bennu and return it to Earth for analysis, aiming to help scientists understand the formation of our solar system and the origin of water and organic compounds on Earth.
