Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR)
Established fundamental human rights to be universally protected, including the right to life, liberty, and security; freedom of opinion and expression; and the right to work and education.
International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR)
Commits signatories to respect civil and political liberties, including the right to free speech, religion, and voting. Allows for the imposition of the death penalty under strict conditions.
International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR)
Calls on countries to work toward granting economic, social, and cultural rights including labor rights, the right to health, the right to education, and the right to an adequate standard of living.
Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW)
Aims to eliminate discrimination against women in all areas of life, including in political, economic, social, cultural, civil, or any other field.

Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CAT)

African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights (ACHPR)
Also known as the Banjul Charter, it seeks to promote and protect human rights and basic freedoms in the African continent.

Convention on the Non-Applicability of Statutory Limitations to War Crimes and Crimes Against Humanity
