Space Probe
Purpose: Conducts science experiments or takes pictures in space. Characteristics: Unmanned, contains scientific instruments, travels outside Earth's orbit to study other celestial bodies.
Space Shuttle
Purpose: Transport astronauts and cargo to and from Earth's orbit. Characteristics: Reusable, winged spacecraft that takes off vertically and lands horizontally like an airplane.
Space Telescope
Purpose: Captures images and data from space, free from Earth's atmospheric distortions. Characteristics: Orbits Earth or is located at a Lagrange point, carries sophisticated instruments like spectrometers and cameras.
Satellite
Purpose: Orbiting Earth to collect information or for communication. Characteristics: Can be natural or artificial, varies in size, and operates in different orbits such as geostationary or polar.
Space Station
Purpose: Serves as a habitable artificial satellite in space. Characteristics: Supports crew members for long-duration stays in space, used for scientific research and experiments.
Rover
Purpose: Explores the surface of planets and moons. Characteristics: Mobile robot, usually solar-powered or nuclear-powered, carries instruments for scientific analysis.
Orbiter
Purpose: Studies celestial bodies from orbit. Characteristics: Remains in space for extended periods, equipped with various scientific instruments, analyzes atmospheric, surface, and environmental conditions.
Landers
Purpose: Delivers instruments or humans to the surface of a celestial body. Characteristics: Designed to survive impact of landing, carries scientific equipment, might also carry rovers.
Interstellar Probe
Purpose: To explore the regions between stars. Characteristics: Conceptual or planned spacecraft intended to exit the solar system, must be highly autonomous and equipped to communicate over vast distances.
Space Capsule
Purpose: Transport humans or cargo to space and back. Characteristics: Typically small and has a simple shape, like a cone or a sphere, designed to re-enter Earth's atmosphere.
