FTP
A standard network protocol used for the transfer of computer files between a client and server on a computer network.
SMTP
A protocol for sending email messages between servers. Most email systems that send mail over the Internet use SMTP to send messages.
SSL/TLS
Protocols designed to provide communications security over a computer network.
SSH
A cryptographic network protocol for operating network services securely over an unsecured network.
RTP
A protocol used for delivering audio and video over IP networks. It is used extensively in communication and entertainment systems that involve streaming media.
HTTPS
An extension of HTTP for secure communication over a computer network, with widely-used Web encryption—SSL/TLS.
POP3
An application-layer Internet standard protocol used by local email clients to retrieve email from a remote server over a TCP/IP connection.
IMAP
A protocol that allows a client email program to access remote message stores as if they were local.
SMB
A network file sharing protocol that allows applications to read and write to files and request services from server programs in a computer network.
NTP
A networking protocol for clock synchronization between computer systems over packet-switched, variable-latency data networks.
HTTP
A protocol used for transmitting hypermedia documents, such as HTML. It is the foundation of data communication for the World Wide Web.
LDAP
A protocol for reading and editing directories over an IP network.
TCP/IP
The main suite of protocols used for transmitting data across the internet. It ensures end-to-end data delivery.
DHCP
A network management protocol used on Internet Protocol networks whereby a DHCP server dynamically assigns an IP address and other network configuration parameters to each device on a network.
DNS
The protocol that translates human-friendly domain names to IP addresses which computers use to identify each other on the network.
