Australia
The former flag had a British Union Jack on the upper left corner, a large Federation Star below it, and five stars representing the Southern Cross constellation on the right half. It was used from 1901 to 1903.
Solomon Islands
The former flag used before independence in 1977 had the British Blue Ensign with the coat of arms of the British Solomon Islands.
Tuvalu
The flag used from 1978 to 1995 and then reintroduced in 1997 is the current flag of Tuvalu. It has the Union Jack in the canton and nine stars. Between 1995 and 1997, a different flag without the Union Jack was briefly used.
Samoa
The previous flag of Samoa, used from 1949 to 1948, consisted of a red field with a blue upper quadrant housing the Southern Cross. It was replaced before the country gained independence.
New Zealand
Previous flag featured the Union Jack in the canton and the Southern Cross constellation with red stars with white borders on a blue field. It was used from 1902 until 2016 when it was considered for change but ultimately retained.
Tonga
Before 1875, the flag of Tonga was a plain red field. The current flag which replaced it features a white canton with a red cross.
Palau
Before independence in 1994, Palau used the flag of the United Nations Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands, which was a light blue field with a white circle emblem in the center.
Nauru
Prior to the current flag adopted in 1968, Nauru was represented by the flag of the Trust Territory, featuring a blue field with a white star denoting the territory.
Fiji
The old flag of Fiji included the light blue ensign with the Union Jack in the canton and the shield from the national coat of arms. This flag was used from 1970 to 2021.
Marshall Islands
The Marshall Islands used the flag of the United Nations Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands, of which it was a part, before its current flag was adopted in 1979.
Vanuatu
The prior flag of the New Hebrides, now known as Vanuatu, was a French Tricolor with the British Union Jack in the canton used until independence in 1980.
Cook Islands
The Cook Islands, a self-governing territory in free association with New Zealand, uses a flag similar to the New Zealand flag but with 15 stars representing the 15 islands, adopted in 1979.
French Polynesia
Before the current flag, French Polynesia used a variant of the French Tricolor with the French Southern and Antarctic Lands emblem added to the white stripe. This was used until they adopted their own distinct flag in 1985.
Papua New Guinea
Before 1971, Papua New Guinea used various flags under Australian administration, the most recent being a blue ensign with the southern cross and a Papuan bird-of-paradise.
