Article 3
Definition: The following acts shall be punishable: genocide; conspiracy to commit genocide; direct and public incitement to commit genocide; attempt to commit genocide; and complicity in genocide.
Article 14
Definition: The Contracting Parties may request the United Nations to provide assistance for the prevention and suppression of acts of genocide, in accordance with the principles of the Charter of the United Nations.
Article 18
Definition: The Convention languages will be those of the United Nations and they are equally authentic. The Secretary-General of the United Nations shall prepare additional authentic texts in other languages.
Article 4
Definition: Persons committing genocide or any of the other acts enumerated in Article 3 shall be punished, whether they are constitutionally responsible rulers, public officials, or private individuals.
Article 19
Definition: The Convention will come into force on the 90th day following the date of deposit of the twentieth instrument of ratification or accession.
Article 13
Definition: Upon receiving requests from any Contracting Party for a revision conference, the Secretary-General shall convene a conference under the auspices of the United Nations.
Article 2
Definition: Genocide is defined as acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group. Examples include killing members of the group or causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group.
Article 7
Definition: Genocide and the other acts enumerated in Article 3 shall not be considered as political crimes for the purpose of extradition.
Article 1
Definition: The Convention confirms that genocide is a crime under international law which parties undertake to prevent and punish.
Article 6
Definition: Persons charged with genocide or any of the other acts enumerated in Article 3 shall be tried by a competent tribunal of the State in the territory of which the act was committed, or by an international penal tribunal with jurisdiction.
Article 5
Definition: The Contracting Parties undertake to enact, in accordance with their respective Constitutions, the necessary legislation to give effect to the provisions of the Convention and to provide effective penalties for persons guilty of genocide or any of the other acts enumerated in Article 3.
Article 16
Definition: The Convention shall be deposited in the archives of the United Nations, and its text shall be sent to the governments of the signatory and acceding states.
Article 17
Definition: This Convention shall be registered by the Secretary-General of the United Nations on the date of its coming into force.
Article 9
Definition: Disputes between Contracting Parties relating to the interpretation, application, or fulfillment of the Convention, including those relating to the responsibility of a State for genocide or any of the other acts enumerated in Article 3, shall be submitted to the International Court of Justice at the request of any of the parties to the dispute.
Article 10
Definition: The Convention shall be open for signature by Member States of the United Nations, by any Non-Member State which has received an invitation, and shall be subject to ratification.
Article 15
Definition: Nothing in the Convention shall be interpreted as limiting or derogating from any of the obligations assumed under any prior international instruments.
Article 8
Definition: Contracting Parties may call upon the competent organs of the United Nations to take action for the prevention and suppression of acts of genocide, as outlined in the Charter of the United Nations.
Article 11
Definition: The Convention shall be open for accession by any State, and the instruments of accession shall be deposited with the Secretary-General of the United Nations.
Article 12
Definition: Any Contracting Party may call for a revision conference, and after five years from the Convention’s entry into force, any Party may write to the Secretary-General of the United Nations requesting such a revision.
