Employment-Based Fourth Preference (EB-4)
Special immigrants including religious workers, employees of U.S. foreign service posts, retired employees of international organizations, and others. Different requirements apply for each category.
Employment-Based First Preference (EB-1)
For priority workers with extraordinary abilities, outstanding professors/researchers, and multinational executives/managers. Requires a job offer, unless applicant is applying based on their extraordinary ability.
Employment-Based Fifth Preference (EB-5)
For immigrant investors who invest a certain amount of capital in a new commercial enterprise in the U.S. that creates or preserves at least 10 full-time jobs for qualifying U.S. workers.
Employment-Based Second Preference (EB-2)
Professionals holding advanced degrees or persons with exceptional ability in the sciences, arts, or business. Typically requires labor certification and a job offer.
Employment-Based Third Preference (EB-3)
Skilled workers, professionals, and other workers with at least two years of experience. Requires labor certification and job offer.
Diversity Visa Lottery
Available to individuals from countries with historically low rates of immigration to the U.S. Applicants must meet a simple education or work experience requirement and apply through a lottery system.
Family-Sponsored Preference Categories
Limited visas for specific family relationships with U.S. citizens and legal permanent residents. Divided into F1, F2, F3, and F4 preferences based on relationship and status.
Family-Sponsored Immediate Relatives
U.S. citizens may sponsor immediate relatives including spouses, unmarried children under 21, and parents (if the sponsor is over 21). No quota limits.
