F-1
Purpose: To allow international students to study at accredited U.S. colleges, universities, seminaries, conservatories, or high schools. Basic Requirements: Must be enrolled in a program that leads to a degree or certificate, full-time, and have sufficient financial support.
B-1/B-2
Purpose: B-1 for business visitors; B-2 for tourism, pleasure, or visiting. Basic Requirements: Must demonstrate that the visit is temporary, provide evidence of funds to cover the trip, and have a residence outside the U.S. to ensure return.
J-1
Purpose: To promote cultural exchange, especially to obtain medical or business training within the U.S. Basic Requirements: Must be part of a program that offers cultural exchange opportunities, have sufficient funds, and prove nonimmigrant intent.
H-1B
Purpose: To employ skilled foreign workers in specialty occupations for a temporary period. Basic Requirements: Must have an employment offer from a U.S. employer in a specialty occupation and hold a bachelor's degree or higher in the field of work.
M-1
Purpose: For international students to attend vocational or other recognized non-academic institutions, other than a language training program. Basic Requirements: Must have evidence of sufficient funds, be enrolled in a full-time vocational program, and demonstrate intent to return home.
