Brass Family
Includes trumpet, trombone, French horn, and sometimes tuba. Trumpet and trombone are most common in jazz, often used for melody and solos.
Woodwind Family
Includes saxophone, clarinet, and flute. Saxophones (alto, tenor, baritone, soprano) are central to jazz ensembles, providing melodic and harmonic elements.
Rhythm Section
Includes piano, guitar, double bass, bass guitar, and drums. They provide rhythm, harmony, and the basic structure over which the soloists improvise.
Percussion Family
