Cue
The trigger for an action to be carried out at a specific time, can be a line of dialogue, a piece of music, or an effect.
Upstage
The area of the stage farthest from the audience, typically towards the back wall of the theatre.
Proscenium
The type of stage in theater surrounded by the arch that frames the action of the play.
Apron
The part of the stage extending past the proscenium arch towards the audience.
Center Stage
The central part of the stage, equally distant from both sides of the stage.
Counter-cross
Movement in the opposite direction to balance the stage picture after another actor has moved.
Stage Left
The left side of the stage from the perspective of an actor facing the audience.
Wings
The offstage areas to the sides of the acting area.
Cross
An actor's move from one location to another on stage.
Blocking
The planned movement and positioning of actors on stage.
Downstage
The area of the stage closest to the audience.
Fourth Wall
The imaginary barrier between the audience and the actors, through which the audience views the play.
Cheat Out
An actor's positioning tactic, turning slightly towards the audience to be more visible.
Stage Right
The right side of the stage from the perspective of an actor facing the audience.
Fly Loft
The space above the stage where scenery, drops, and lights can be lifted out of the audience’s view.
