Difficulty Score (D-Score)
The Difficulty Score evaluates the content of the performance, including the difficulty of the moves and the composition of the routine.
Execution Score (E-Score)
The Execution Score starts at 10.0 for each routine and deductions are made for technical errors, form, artistry, and the overall execution of the elements.
Artistry Deductions
Points deducted for lack of creativity, style, and personal flair in the gymnastics routine.
Technical Deductions
Points deducted for technical mistakes, such as incorrect body positions, wobbles, or failure to complete elements.
Neutral Deductions
Penalties applied for infractions of the rules, such as stepping out of bounds, overtime, or inappropriate attire, which do not fall under D or E scores.
Composition Requirements
Points awarded for meeting specific routine construction criteria, such as including a balance of elements and connecting skills seamlessly.
Start Value
The maximum score a gymnast can achieve on a routine, calculated based on the difficulty and the composition of the elements.
Time Violations
Deductions taken when a gymnast exceeds the maximum allowed time for a routine or fails to use the minimum required time for a routine.
Connection Value
Additional points awarded for successfully connecting two or more difficult elements in a sequence.
Stick Bonus
Additional points awarded for sticking landings, which means landing without any steps, hops, or movement of the feet.
Fall Deductions
Points deducted for falls from an apparatus or touching the apparatus to prevent a fall, which are significant errors in a routine.
Line Deductions
Penalties for not keeping the body in a straight line when required, which affects body form and composition.
Flexibility Deductions
Points deducted for lacking the required flexibility in movements like splits or leaps.
Amplitude Deductions
Penalties for not achieving the expected height or distance in tumbling passes, vaults, leaps, and jumps.
Dismount Difficulty
Specific points based on the complexity and skill level of the dismount at the end of an apparatus routine.
Handstand Position
Points awarded for achieving a perfect handstand with the body fully stretched out and no movement.
Judges' Panel
A panel of judges, typically including execution and difficulty judges, who work together to calculate the final score.
Inquiry Process
A process where the coach may question the difficulty score of a gymnast's routine after the score has been posted.
Final Score
The sum of the Difficulty Score and the Execution Score after all deductions and penalties have been made.
Bonus Points
Extra points awarded for exceptional execution of difficult elements or connections beyond the base requirements.
