Secure Attachment
Characterized by a positive view of self and others, and is associated with healthy, adaptive social behaviors. Adolescents with secure attachment often have high self-esteem, are comfortable with intimacy, and able to seek out social support.
Anxious-Preoccupied Attachment
Marked by a negative view of self and a positive view of others. Adolescents with this attachment style tend to be overly dependent on others for validation, have an intense desire for closeness, and may display clingy or needy behavior.
Dismissive-Avoidant Attachment
Characterized by a positive view of self and a negative view of others. Adolescents with dismissive-avoidant attachment might avoid closeness or emotional connection, show high levels of self-sufficiency, and value independence extremely highly.
Fearful-Avoidant Attachment
Features a negative view of both self and others. Adolescents with this attachment type may desire close relationships but have a fear of being hurt, leading to ambivalence and avoidance. They might display a mix of anxious and avoidant behaviors.
