Flashcards
0/20
Frontal Lobe
Responsible for executive functions, such as decision making, problem solving, and planning.
Parietal Lobe
Processes sensory information such as touch, temperature, and pain.
Cerebellum
Coordinates voluntary movements such as posture, balance, coordination, and speech.
Brainstem
Responsible for basic life functions such as breathing, heart rate, and blood pressure.
Amygdala
Involved in emotion processing, particularly fear and pleasure responses.
Temporal Lobe
Involved in auditory processing and is also important for memory.
Thalamus
Acts as the brain's relay station, directing messages to the sensory receiving areas and transmitting replies to the cerebellum and medulla.
Prefrontal Cortex
Associated with complex cognitive behavior, personality expression, and moderating social behaviour.
Occipital Lobe
Dedicated to processing visual information.
Basal Ganglia
A group of structures involved in controlling voluntary motor movements, procedural learning, and cognitive functions.
Primary Motor Cortex
Controls voluntary movements of specific body parts associated with areas of the frontal lobe.
Insula
Involved in consciousness and plays a role in diverse functions usually linked to emotion or the regulation of the body's homeostasis.
Corpus Callosum
Connects the two hemispheres of the brain and allows them to communicate with each other.
Visual Cortex
Processes visual information and is involved in the perception of movement and color.
Broca's Area
Involved in speech production and articulation.
Primary Sensory Cortex
Receives and processes sensory input from the body, including touch, pressure, temperature, and pain.
Cingulate Cortex
Part of the limbic system, involved in emotional formation and processing, learning, and memory.
Hypothalamus
Regulates many of the body's key processes, such as metabolism and body temperature. The hypothalamus is also an important emotional center.
Hippocampus
Crucial for the formation of new memories and spatial orientation.
Wernicke's Area
Responsible for understanding spoken and written language.
