Tao (The Way)
Tao refers to the fundamental principle underlying the universe, representing the natural order and the essence that all things are said to follow. It's the ultimate reality in Taoism that is ineffable and beyond human comprehension.
Ziran (Spontaneity)
Ziran refers to the self-so spontaneity, naturalness, or freedom considered as a central value in Taoism. It's about conforming to one's innate nature in harmony with the Tao.
Three Treasures
The Three Treasures or Three Jewels are fundamental moral teachings in Taoism that advocate for compassion, moderation, and humility, often summarized as: 'compassion leads to courage, moderation leads to generosity, and humility leads to leadership.'
Tao Te Ching
The Tao Te Ching, traditionally attributed to Laozi, is a foundational Taoist text. It consists of 81 short chapters covering the ideas of Tao and virtues like humility, simplicity, and moderation. The text lays down the philosophical basis for Taoism.
Taoist Alchemy
Taoist Alchemy includes practices focused on longevity and immortality, combining elements of medicine, meditation, and exercises. It involves both the external alchemy of potions and elixirs, as well as internal alchemy aiming to purify the body and spirit.
Five Elements
The Five Elements, or Wu Xing, in Taoist philosophy, symbolize five phases of cyclic change: wood, fire, earth, metal, and water. They represent different qualities and are used to explain interactions and relationships in the universe.
Wu Wei (Non-action)
Wu Wei describes an important moral and spiritual concept in Taoism wherein action is performed in alignment with the ebb and flow of the Tao, emphasizing naturalness, spontaneity, and effortlessness.
Qi (Ch'i)
In Taoism, Qi represents the vital life force that flows through all things, believed to be part of everything that exists. Qi can be accumulated and balanced to maintain health and harmony.
Feng Shui
Feng Shui is an ancient Chinese practice that utilizes the Taoist concepts of Yin and Yang and Qi to harmonize individuals with their surrounding environment through spatial arrangement and directional alignments.
Yin and Yang
Yin and Yang is a Taoist concept that highlights the dual nature of existence where opposite forces are interconnected and interdependent in the natural world, and how they give rise to each other in turn.
