Eucharist
The Eucharist, also known as Holy Communion, commemorates the Last Supper of Jesus Christ. It involves consecrated bread and wine, which Christians believe become the body and blood of Christ.
Matrimony
Matrimony unites a man and a woman in a lifelong covenant of self-giving love. The couple gives their consent before God and the Church, and the marriage is consummated in the marital embrace.
Baptism
Baptism signifies the washing away of sin, rebirth, and admission into the Christian community. It involves the use of water and the invocation of the Holy Trinity.
Confirmation
Confirmation strengthens the grace of baptism and endows the person with the Holy Spirit to live out their Christian faith. The bishop lays hands on the person and anoints them with chrism.
Holy Orders
Holy Orders consecrates a man to a life of ministry in the church as a bishop, priest, or deacon. It includes the laying on of hands and a prayer of consecration asking God to grant the Holy Spirit and the gifts needed for the ministry.
Anointing of the Sick
Anointing of the Sick offers comfort, peace, courage, and, if the sick person is unable to make a confession, forgiveness of sins. It involves anointing the forehead and hands with oil of the sick accompanied by prayers.
Confession
Confession, also known as Reconciliation, allows individuals to seek forgiveness for their sins and reconcile with God and the Church. It involves a penitent’s confession to a priest and absolution.
