Drip Irrigation
A type of micro-irrigation system that saves water and fertilizer by allowing water to drip slowly to the roots of plants, either onto the soil surface or directly to the root zone, through a network of valves, pipes, tubing, and emitters.
Furrow Irrigation
An irrigation system where water is applied to furrows or shallow ditches between crop rows. The water infiltrates into the soil as it moves along the field, providing moisture to the crop roots.
Sprinkler Irrigation
This system simulates natural rainfall by distributing water through a system of pipes usually by pumping, followed by spraying onto the soil surface through sprinklers.
Center Pivot Irrigation
A form of overhead sprinkler irrigation consisting of several segments of pipe joined together and supported by trusses, mounted on wheeled towers with sprinklers positioned along its length.
Subsurface Drip Irrigation
Similar to drip irrigation, this system delivers water directly to the root zone of plants through a buried network of tubes and emitters, reducing evaporation and deep percolation.
Flood Irrigation
One of the oldest methods of irrigation where an entire field is flooded with water, allowing it to soak into the soil and reach the roots of the plants.
Basin Irrigation
This system involves constructing small dikes around the perimeter of a field to form a basin and then flooding that basin with water.
Rain Gun Irrigation
An adaptation of the sprinkler irrigation method, using a single large sprinkler that delivers water in a circular pattern, suitable for larger areas and higher application rates.
