Pinning Pleats and Tucks
Pleats and tucks should be pinned parallel to their folds. Make sure they lay flat and are even in size.
Pinning on the Bias
When pinning fabric on the bias, allow for stretch and consider the desired drape. Pin sparingly to prevent distortion.
Pinning Along Darts
Pin darts from the wide end towards the point, ensuring the fabric remains smooth and without puckering.
Pinning at the Apex
For areas like bust or hips, pin at the highest point of curvature to allow proper drape and avoid tension.
Pinning Hems and Edges
For clean edges, pin hems and other edges by folding under to desired width and pinning at regular intervals to maintain an even line.
Pinning at the Center Front
Secure fabric at the center front to maintain symmetry. Use vertical pins along the center line before manipulating the fabric.
Pinning at the Grainline
Align the fabric grainline with the pattern grainline before pinning to ensure the drape follows the fabric's natural fall.
Pinning for Ease
When pinning to create ease, gently distribute fullness and use pins to hold the slight gathers in place without creating puckers.
