Grainline
Indicates the direction of the fabric's threads, which affects how it drapes on the body.
Bias
The diagonal direction of fabric that offers greater stretch and can cause a garment to drape more fluidly.
Dart
A folded and stitched wedge used to shape the fabric around curves of the body.
Pleat
A fold in the fabric that allows for fullness and volume, can add dramatic effect in draped garments.
Gore
A vertical panel of fabric that is narrower at the top and wider at the bottom, used to give shape and fullness.
Godet

Collar
A band of fabric around the neckline, which can affect the garment's framing of the face and neck.
Cuff
A fold or band at the end of a sleeve or pant leg that helps maintain the garment's shape.
Waistband
A strip of fabric encircling the waist, serving the purpose of fit and sometimes a decorative element.
Facing
A piece of fabric on the inside of the garment that provides a finished look and structure to edges.
