Waist Dart
Waist darts are vertical darts that help define the waist by removing excess fabric; they are usually pointed toward the waistline, located on the front or back bodice pieces.
Fish-Eye Dart
Fish-eye darts take in fabric at the waist on both the front and the back, creating a double-ended dart that shapes the garment around the torso.
Contour Dart
A contour dart is used for more extreme shaping, taking in fabric at two parallel points which creates a more fitted shape around curves like the bust or the small of the back.
Elbow Dart
Elbow darts are small darts placed at the elbow to give a bent shape to sleeves, allowing for better movement and a neater appearance.
Straight Dart
A straight dart usually has a point on one end and is wide at the other. It helps to shape a flat piece of fabric to fit curves, typically used at bust, waist, or hips.
French Dart
French darts are diagonal darts that start at the side seam and point up towards the bust. They create a smooth, elongated silhouette and are often found in vintage styles.
Neck Dart
A neck dart is a type of dart that removes excess fabric from around the neckline area, helping to fit the garment to the body's contours.
Armhole Dart
An armhole dart is situated around the armhole of a garment and is mainly used to remove excess fabric for a better fit around the arms and shoulder blades.
Shoulder Dart
Shoulder darts provide shaping from the shoulder, usually pointing towards the bust, giving the garment a more tailored fit on the upper body.
Bust Dart
The bust dart points from either the side seam or the waist to the apex of the bust, accommodating bust roundness and providing shape to the upper bodice.
