Protect yourself at all times!
A reminder to boxers that they must maintain their defense throughout the match, regardless of the situation.
Box!
This command is used to signal the fighters to begin the engagement or resume fighting after a pause.
Break!
This indicates the fighters should stop punching and step back cleanly before resuming boxing.
Let go!
Commanded when a boxer holds the opponent, the referee will call this to make them release their hold.
Go to your corner!
Instructing a boxer to return to their designated corner, often after a knockdown or prior to the start of a round.
Look at me!
Directed towards a boxer after a pause in action, usually to assess their condition or readiness to continue.
Stop!
This is a command used to halt the action in the ring immediately for various reasons, such as an illegal move or to check a potential injury.
Knockdown!
This is called when a boxer has been knocked off their feet or touches the mat with any part of the body other than the feet following a legal blow.
Eight count!
Given after a knockdown, the referee counts to eight and the boxer must show they can continue.
Time!
Used to stop the fight temporarily, typically for a timeout due to equipment issues, medical evaluation, or other interruptions not related to the regular round timing.
No punching!
The referee instructs the boxers to cease throwing punches, typically during a clinch or if punches are being thrown after a command to break.
Watch your head!
A warning when the referee notices that headbutts may be occurring or are likely to occur.
Walk it off!
A direction given to a boxer who has received a low blow and has up to five minutes to recover.
Fight out!
Telling boxers to work their way out of a clinch or close-quarters situation without the referee having to break them up.
Hands up!
Command usually given to a boxer who consistently drops their hands, leaving themselves vulnerable.
Keep your punches up!
Warning to a boxer who is throwing punches dangerously low or at risk of committing a low-blow foul.
Keep it clean!
A directive to remind boxers to avoid illegal moves and maintain sportsmanship.
Watch the elbows!
Warning for a boxer to be careful not to use their elbows offensively or defensively in an illegal manner.
Listen to my commands!
A stern reminder for boxers to pay attention to the referee's instructions throughout the fight.
Don't hold!
Instruction given to a boxer who is holding their opponent to stop this action and box fairly.
