On the square
Rowing with the blade kept at a vertical angle through both the drive and recovery.
Way enough
This command signals the crew to stop rowing.

Command that prepares all rowers for a start or resumption of rowing.
Weigh enough
Another way to tell rowers to cease rowing, interchangeable with 'Way enough'.
Back it down
A command for rowers to reverse the motion of rowing to move the boat backwards.
Attention
Issued to alert the crew that the start command is imminent.
Hold water
Command for rowers to square their blades in the water to stop the boat quickly.
Paddle
A light rowing stroke used in warm-up, cool-down, or recovery.
Check it down
Instructs the crew to abruptly slow the boat’s momentum, usually in preparation to stop or turn.
Square blades
Instructs rowers to keep their oar blades vertical during the recovery phase.
Full pressure
Command instructing rowers to give maximum effort.
Row
The command given to indicate the start of the race.
Easy there
Instructs the crew to stop rowing or to row lightly.
Stand by
Tells the crew to be ready for the next command.
Feather blades
Tells rowers to turn the oar blades parallel to the water surface during the recovery.
Inside hand to outside shoulder
A drill where the rower touches their inside hand to the outside shoulder at the finish to ensure proper arm and body positioning.
Let it run
Command given to allow the boat to glide through the water without rowing.
Outside arm only
Command instructing rowers to use only the arm furthest from the oarlock to row.
Power 10
A call for ten of the rower's most powerful strokes.
