Flashcards
0/12
Presbyopia
Loss of near vision due to aging. Reading glasses or bifocals can correct this.
Myopia
Nearsightedness; distant objects appear blurry. Correction with concave lenses or refractive surgery.
Cataracts
Clouding of the lens, leading to a decrease in vision. Surgery to replace the clouded lens is the common correction method.
Diabetic Retinopathy
Damage to the retina due to diabetes. Control of diabetes and laser surgery can help treatment.
Amblyopia
Reduced vision in one eye, referred to as 'lazy eye'. Corrected by wearing an eye patch, glasses or sometimes surgery.
Strabismus
Misalignment of the eyes, commonly known as 'crossed eyes'. Corrected with glasses, eye exercises, or surgery to align the eyes.
Color Blindness
Inability to distinguish between certain colors, commonly red and green. No correction exists, but special lenses can help perceive differences in colors.
Astigmatism
Irregular curvature of the cornea or lens causes blurred vision. Correction with cylindrical lenses or refractive surgery.
Night Blindness
Difficulty seeing in low light or darkness. Often caused by a vitamin A deficiency, retinitis pigmentosa or cataracts.
Macular Degeneration
Loss of central vision due to aging or other factors. Treatment includes medication, vision aids, and sometimes surgery.
Hyperopia
Farsightedness; close objects appear blurry. Correction with convex lenses or refractive surgery.
Glaucoma
Increased pressure in the eye damages the optic nerve. Treated with eye drops, medication, or surgery.
