Meteoroid
A meteoroid is a small rocky or metallic body traveling through space that is significantly smaller than an asteroid and ranges in size from small grains to one-meter-wide objects.
Meteorite
A meteorite is a fragment of a meteoroid or asteroid that survives passage through the earth's atmosphere and strikes the ground without being vaporized.
Bolide
A bolide is an exceptionally bright meteor that often explodes in the atmosphere due to its large size or high speed, and is sometimes followed by a sonic boom.
Meteor
When a meteoroid enters the Earth's atmosphere and vaporizes to become a streak of light in the sky, it is referred to as a meteor, commonly known as a shooting star or falling star.
Differences between Meteoroid, Meteor, and Meteorite
A 'Meteoroid' is a small body in space. When it enters the Earth's atmosphere and begins to burn up, it becomes a 'Meteor.' If a piece of it survives the burn-up and lands on Earth, it's called a 'Meteorite'.
Meteor Showers
Meteor showers occur when the Earth passes through the stream of debris left by a comet, causing a high number of meteors to enter the atmosphere and light up the sky.
